How do I know if my 2 year old is getting enough calcium?

He usually eats 1 or 2 servings of cheese and a cup of orange juice with calcium and vitamin D. He also takes a vitamin with iron because he is a bit anemic. Is that enough or should he be getting more? He will not drink any sort of milk and believe me I have tried it all. I've tried soy, silk, lactaid, whole milk, chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, pediasure, boost, and carnation instant breakfast. He will take none of it.

I'm assuming you tried going back to a toddler formula as well?

He needs 500mg of calcium a day. From what you're saying, he gets enough calcium in a day, especially if he takes a daily vitamin which might also have calcium in it. They get calcium from things like whole wheat bread, oranges, mac and cheese, etc. The calcium fortified OJ has 300mg of calcium in 1 cup (240mL=1cup) so if he drinks a full cup of that then he's more than halfway to his daily need. Will he eat a string-cheese? It has 20% of an adult's need of calcium (about 1000mg) so about 40% of his need, or about 200mg of calcium, which when taken with the OJ would easily meet his need for the day (the cheese you give him now may be enough.) You might also consider yogurt, my daughter loves it.

Also, it matters more what they eat in a week. If he has a low-calcium day, and another day when he has a lot of calcium, it will balance out and be alright.
