Gel Candles
For many, learning how to make gel candles serves them well. Not only are they in for a wonderful treat, but they are also into something profitable and productive. The popularity of gel or jelly candles is very apparent, due to its distinct look and appeal. Plus, with the emergence of home decorating and interior designing, candles are deemed perfect as ornaments.
In trying how to make gel candles, you will need the following items. You have to have a large glass or measuring cup, metal spoons, cooking pots, knife, and glass containers. Part of your must-haves also includes a candy thermometer, candle gel, candle dye, pre-tabbed wicks and candle scent.
First, you need to fill the pot about halfway with water. Heat it until it simmers. You can now start cutting the candle gel in small pieces and place them all in your measuring cup or Pyrex. For color, you can now add your candle dye. You do not have to put so much as a little amount of dye is already enough.
Second, place your measuring cup into the pot with simmering water. Clip your candy thermometer inside the measuring cup and heat the mixture until it reaches 225 degrees. Remember to stir the mixture occasionally to avoid the gel from burning. Also, it is advisable not to over stir.
In learning how to make gel candles, it is important to prepare your molds and containers properly. Make sure that each mold is clean. Dip your pre-tabbed wicks in the melted gel mixture and gently place them at the center of each mold. Hold it in place and allow the gel to set first. In this way, you are certain that the wicks are kept straight.
When the candle gel has finally melted, you can now pour the mixture into prepared molds and containers. Leave about half an inch of space from the rim. Allow the candles to set. The time required does vary, depending on the size of candles itself.
Remember that in trying how to make gel candles, the best way to go would be constant practice. Do not be discouraged by initial mistakes. Try to start by making small candle batches. Do not go beyond your means. If you feel that you are good enough, that’s the time when you can start experimenting with colors or scents. It is also the perfect time to achieve certain designs or themes. For eventually, you will learn how to be bolder and bigger with your design and color choices.
