• If you are going for a nautical theme than use seashells and sand. You can put the sand in a bowl or platter, center the candles, and scatter the shells around it. In addition to shells you can also use starfish, pebbles, and sand dollars. Lay some netting underneath the platter or drape it around the candles if you do not intend to light them. Choose scents like sea breeze or something else that reminds you of the beach. If you collect your own shells at the beach then this is a great way to showcase them.

• If you have a room decorated in fall colors or need a Thanksgiving display then use pine-cones and acorns. A wooden platter lend s itself to an autumn theme. Spray the acorns with varnish then layer them and pine-cones in the platter. Pine-cones and acorns are very flammable so use votives or other candles with glass coverings. You could also use battery operated candles, which will last far longer.

• If you want to illuminate your deck or garden then fill a flowerpot with sand and put pillar candles or votives in the sand. If you want a fun, colorful arrangement use colored sands in blue, pink, or green. You can raise the candles by putting the flowerpot on a stand. Scattering flowerpots along a garden path creates a beautiful effect.

• For a romantic display, put votive candles in wine glasses on a table or shelf. Make sure you have use odd numbers of wine glasses because it makes the design appear more sophisticated and natural. Add rose petals in the glasses or on the shelf for a stunning impact.

• Red and gold are sumptuous colors, which look terrific in candlelight. In order to incorporate these rich colors lay gold and red glass beads on a platter with the candles in the center. The beads will sparkle and shimmer in the soft light. Additionally, you could also wrap a strand of glass beads on a wire around the very center of the candle.

• Putting the candles on a reflective surface, such as a mirror or polished silver platter, enhances the glow. This makes a great centerpiece on the dining room table or a coffee table. You will have to clean the surface of the mirror or platter after each use in order to keep the effect.
