Even though the news of your engagement is so exciting that you'll have a hard time not telling the world, you should get your invitations in the mail and in the hands of your guests before publishing the official announcement in the newspaper. Of course, the exception is your parents who shouldn't learn from an invite but from the happy couple in person. A good way to share the news is by taking each set of parents out to dinner and celebrating the happy news over a glass of champagne.

You may also want to tell a few close friends, such as the person who introduced the two of you or your best friend.
