Besides your mother-in-law, the thing most brides hate dealing with is the long task of writing their bridal shower and wedding thank-you cards. While it is important to complete the task promptly and you’ve probably had your thank-you cards purchased for a few weeks, most brides are overwhelmed because they don’t even know where to begin! Well, don’t sweat it! Here is a list of great tips that might make the job go a little more smoothly.
1.)Â Â Â Do your bridal shower thank-you cards before the wedding even gets here. Since, your bridal shower is your first order of business, it will be easier to write the thank-you cards while the shower is fresh in your mind. Have someone at your shower keep a list of gifts and gift-givers so you can easily identify who gave you what, and you could even pass around blank envelopes for everyone to jot their address on, because that will definitely save you a lot of time when you get ready to send them. You should also send them out at least ten days after the shower.
2.)Â Â Â When opening wedding gifts, have someone make a list. Just like at your bridal shower, whether you open them right after the ceremony, at a post-wedding brunch, or when you get home from your honeymoon, you should recruit someone to make a list of gifts and gift givers, especially when you are dealing with that many cards and gifts.
3.)Â Â Â You should never use a pre-printed wedding thank-you card. Thank-you cards should be hand written and should be very personal. They should reflect on each individual gift.
4.)   Set aside time to write your thank-you cards. We know you’re a busy newlywed! Your busy setting up house, and planning your housewarming party, but you should commit to set aside time everyday to complete your wedding thank-you cards. Try to get away somewhere quiet for an hour or two and give yourself a goal, like for instance you could say, “Tonight I am going to complete twenty thank-you cardsâ€. As you complete them, check them off your list, so you’ll know where you left off.
5.)   Print out a second sheet of your invitation labels. This will make addressing your thank-you cards a breeze! If you haven’t created a list of addresses and labels, you should go ahead and do it, because this will save you from major writer’s cramp when you get ready to embark on this tedious task.
6.)Â Â Â You should include your new return address on all thank-you cards. This will give all of your friends and family the opportunity to add it to their address books.
7.)   Divide up the task with your new hubby! A great idea is to sit down and write your thank-you cards with your new spouse. Maybe he could write the ones to his side of the family and you could write the ones to your side of the family. You could also make it a little competitive! Make it a race to see who can get the most done in one sitting. But, don’t race if you don’t think either of you will write nice, formal thank-you cards because you have made it into a competition.
8.)   Wedding thank-you cards should be sent out no later than two weeks after returning from your honeymoon. You don’t really realize how important they are, until your great-aunt so-and-so mentions it to your mother that she never received a thank-you card from you.
So, as you can see, getting started isn’t as hard as you think. All you need to do is cuddle up on the couch with your gift list and sheet of address labels, and just get started. You will be surprised after the first one or two how easy it is to get into it, and that after only a few hours you’ve managed to complete such a dreaded task.
